Empowering the best people
At VoltaGrid, we are committed to creating the safest workplace possible. We provide the best equipment, the best programs, and the best training. But the key to achieving safety success will always be empowering the best people.
Our safety program
The pillars of our safety program are:
- Every safety incident is preventable.
- Every employee goes home safe every day.
- Each employee is responsible for their own safety and the safety of everyone else in the company.
- An efficient operation is a safe operation.
By incorporating these values every day, at every opportunity, VoltaGrid is Generating the Power of Safety (GPS).
Our GPS program:
- Aligns to ISO 45001
- Works in conjunction with all company management systems
- Includes task- and equipment-specific standard operating procedures (“SOPs”)
- Serves as the foundation for quality management system
- Requires rigorous training for all employees, including classroom and remote training programs customized by equipment, task, policy, and roles (e.g., new hires, supervisors, and senior leadership)
- Utilizes TapRooT and EquiFactor to collect and manage data for company-specific leading indicators and root cause analyses
- Improves field performance with job safety analyses (“JSA”)
- Incorporates DOT excellence standards
- Registered with ISNetworld, Avetta, and Veriforce (formerly PEC)
Operational safety
Although VoltaGrid employs full-time safety and training staff, the remote nature of our work and the small crew sizes make personal responsibility for safety even more critical. Each person in the company must be an trained in risk identification and mitigation. VoltaGrid policies, SOPs, and training assist and support the focus of each individual worker.
But safety doesn’t end with the performance of the employee. Safety excellence must also be found in VoltaGrid programs for equipment protection and environmental stewardship.
For equipment protection, we have a four-tiered line of defense:
- Enhanced equipment control systems
- Industry leading equipment operators
- Automated conditions monitoring/alert systems
- Remote monitoring teams
Stop work authority
It is the expectation that all VoltaGrid employees will proactively identify and mitigate hazards every day. Every employee has Stop Work Authority (SWA) — the requirement to make an intervention whenever a hazardous condition is observed. Every employee has the mandate to ask questions, point out hazards, or to state that you are not properly trained for the task. The supervisor must then work to remedy the situation so that work can be completed safely.
VoltaGrid guarantees that when SWA intervention is validly claimed, no employee will suffer any discipline or negative repercussions for their actions. If any employee feels they are receiving a disciplinary action resulting from the legitimate use of SWA, email immediately.
COVID compliance
Although the situation with the novel coronavirus COVID-19 is ever changing and varies by jurisdiction, VoltaGrid will make every attempt to protect all personnel from this virus. Our program includes distancing protocols, sanitation and disinfection tasks for remote locations and temporary housing, “off the job safety” guidelines, return to work/return to rotation programs, signs/symptoms communications, maintaining an inventory of protective equipment, and supply chain management.
